The National Department of Education and the Western Cape Education Department’s (WCED) provides matric students with some great resources to guide them through their matric year. You’ll find tips for success, study guides, past papers and more. The matric support website provides advice on preparing for the exams, planning your study time, what to cover in each subject and advice from those who excelled in the previous year’s exams.

Break up your learning sections into manageable parts.

Trying to learn too much at one time will only result in a tired, unfocused and anxious brain. Take breaks in between your studying. It will help you remember what you’ve studied and leave you feeling energised. This is your opportunity to take a nap or go for a walk.

Draw up a personal study schedule.

It is advisable that study in 50-minute blocks, with 10-minute breaks. It is important that you select fixed study-times for every day, including a time slot over weekends. Break up topics into manageable sections.

Stay Hydrated.

Staying hydrated is important when it comes to studying, it will help you stay energised, and improve your level of concentration. That way, you are able to stay focused.

Take Advantage of After School Classes.

Use after school lessons wisely whenever your teacher arranges for one. you’ll be able to ask your teacher questions on concepts that may be confusing and get the help you need. Also the use of a private tutor can be very helpful in your preparation if your parents can afford one.
